Walter M. Peterson Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

The funeral service for Walter Peterson, 83, Valley City, ND will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 6, 2013 at the Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City. Burial will be in Woodbine Cemetery, Valley City. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday at the Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel and will continue there an hour prior to the service, Friday. Walter M. Peterson was born, July 9, 1930 in Fingal, ND, the son of Carl and Christine (Solie) Peterson. He attended rural school near Fingal. Walt worked on local farms and then worked for Barnes County Highway Department for several years before working for the city of Valley City as it’s landfill operator. He retired in 1993 after 35 years. In 2007, he became a resident of the Sheyenne Care Center where he died on September 3, 2013. He liked to work on tractors and motors and enjoyed woodworking. Walt is survived by his wife, Mary (Roberg) Peterson of Valley City. They were married on February 16, 1955 in Moorhead MN. He is also survived by a son, Duane (Becky) Peterson of Litchville, ND; daughter, Judy (Don) Eastburn of White Bear Lake, MN; son-in-law, Rocky Gabel of Valley City; 5 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; brothers, Orvis (Maxine) residing at the ND Veteran’s Home, Lisbon, ND, Donald (Doris) of West Fargo, ND, Ronald (Cleo) of Fargo, ND, James (Carol) of Bismarck, ND, and Marvin of Kentland, IN; sisters, Helen Lemnus of Kentland, Sharon (Jake) Bierly of Kentland, Jean (Jerome) Ussatis of Moorhead, MN, and Olga (Alvin) Pinke of Valley City. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Christine (Solie) Peterson; daughter, Debbie Gabel; great granddaughters, Jasmine and Christine Peterson; sisters, Clarice Peterson and Alice Monson; and a brother, Merlin Peterson. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials are made to Hospice of the Red River Valley. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City.
