Vivian Ann Bowman

Vivian Ann Verduin was born January 1, 1928, near Litchville, ND to Peter and Nell Verduin. She had one older brother, Clarence Clifford (Bud) Verduin. They grew up on a farm near Litchville. She attended grade school in Hastings, North Dakota and graduated from Litchville High School. Vivian graduated from Valley City State Teachers College and taught school in Cooperstown. Vivian was united in marriage to Shannon Duane Bowman July 14, 1949 in the First Reformed Church in Litchville. She then made family homes in a series of places around the world, including Whitehall MT, Yokohama Japan, Butte MT, Vicenza Italy, Ft Devens MA, Ft Hood TX, Ft Sheridan IL, and then home to retirement in Valley City in 1970 near the college where they met. She worked for many years at Sears. They enjoyed RV travel and fishing trips in their retirement. Those left to share her memory include her husband of 68 years, Shannon; her son Terrance (Linda) Bowman, Lake Tapps WA, her daughter Susan (Michael) Marohl of Bismarck, her grandchildren Aaron Marohl of Scottsdale, AZ, Christopher (Rachel) Marohl of Wichita, KS, Ryan (Valerie) Bowman of Kirkland, WA, and Ashley (Luke) Swift of Lake Tapps, WA; her great grandchildren James and Alex Bowman, and Eli and Bennett Swift; her step grandchildren Toby (Lauren) Cusimano of Maple Valley, WA, and Amber Cusimano of Arlington, WA; plus 7 step great grandchildren and 4 step great great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Barbara Welken, Detroit Lakes, MN and Beverly (Elwood) Nelson, Boulder, CO, and brother-in-law Cliff Roxton, Santa Barbara, CA. Preceding her in death were her son, Shannon, her parents, Peter and Nell Verduin, her brother 'Bud', her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Edward and Helen (Olsberg) Bowman; sisters-in-law, Myrtle Verduin, Enid Roxton and brother-in-law Ralph Welken. The funeral service will be 10:30 Friday, September 1, 2017 at Epworth United Methodist Church, Valley City. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be in Woodbine Cemetery, Valley City. Vivian died Sunday, August 23, 2017 at the North Dakota Veteran’s Home, Lisbon, North Dakota.
