Marilyn Buttke, 72, Valley City, ND, died at her home under the care of her family and Hospice of the Red River Valley on Wednesday, February 18, 2009. Marilyn’s wishes were to not have a funeral service. There will be a memorial graveside service at St. Petri Cemetery, rural Nome, ND in the spring. Marilyn Daye Harland was born on August 25, 1936, on the family farm, rural Nome, ND, the daughter of Palmer and Annie (Thoreson) Harland. She attended Lindvold Country School and Nome High School. She married Carl Buttke in Dilworth, MN. They made their home in Petaluma, CA where she worked for many years as a shipping and receiving clerk at Fairchild. After retiring in 1998, she returned to ND and made her home in Valley City. Her greatest joy was time spent with her family. She also enjoyed gardening, flowers, music, and playing cards. Dancing was something she loved to do, as well as going on casino trips. Marilyn is survived by her daughter, Debra Buttke of Rohnert Park, CA; granddaughters, Carla (Eric), Marie (Todd), and Trisha; great grandchildren, Katie, Spencer, Hunter, Miranda, Christian, Nathan, and Sara; brothers, Charles Harland of Fargo, ND and Douglas (Peggy) Harland of Nome, ND; sisters, Karen (Charles) Pederson and Sue (Keith) Colville both of Valley City; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Beverly Kunze and Earlis Hill; and nephews, Jerry Harland and Scott Harland.
