Lila Haugen

Lila Fern Tokle was born on July 25, 1920 in Lake Park, IA, to Emil and Anna (Nygaard) Tokle. She attended school in Iowa and graduated from Excelsior High School, near Lake Park, in 1938. In 1946, she moved with her family to the North LaMoure, ND area. On May 25, 1949, she married Adolph Haugen in Aberdeen, SD. They made their home on a farm in Litchville Township, ND. Lila was left to raise 4 of their children on her own when Adolph died in November of 1970. In 2002, she moved to Valley City, ND. Lila traveled from coast to coast. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and knitting as well as gardening. She liked doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles as it helped keep her mind sharp. She was baptized and confirmed at North LaMoure Lutheran Church where she had been a long time member until it closed. Lila was past treasurer of North LaMoure Church WELCA. She died July 15, 2011 at Mercy Hospital in Valley City and is survived by her 3 daughters and 2 sons: Fern Haugen of Ashley, ND, Shelley (Lonnie) Zeadow of Bozeman, MT, Mitch (Ronda) Haugen of Olympia, WA, Clay (Pam) Haugen of Litchville, ND, and Wendy Washek of Fargo, ND; 6 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren, 7 step-great grandchildren; and her twin sister, Lillian Horsager. She was preceded in death by her husband, Adolph; infant son, Mark; 3 brothers, Clyde, Lloyd, and Ivan; and 2 sisters, Vivian Arthur, Marie Gray.
