August 1, 1929 - April 25, 2018
Joyce Van Dyke, 88, Valley City, North Dakota died Wednesday, April 25, 2018, at Mercy Hospital, Valley City, with her family by her side. Joyce, the daughter of Ernest and Allie Miedema, was born on August 1, 1929, on the family farm in Meadow Lake Township, near Ypsilanti, ND. She was the youngest of eleven children, attended school at Radtke School #2; many good memories and relationships from there lasted a lifetime. On March 17, 1949, she married Frank G. Van Dyke at the North Marion Reformed Church. Joyce made her profession of faith there and was a member of that congregation for 68 years. In December, 1997, they moved to Valley City where they joined the Grace Free Lutheran Church. Frank passed away April 21, 2002. In September 2009, Joyce moved to Bridgeview Estates. She often said “My, we have it good here!” Her pleasure in the simple things of life was evident. Joyce was very active in Reformed Church Women's ministries since the days of “Girls' Society.” She taught Sunday school, led many Bible studies, and enjoyed traveling in addition to “keeping things together” at home. Joyce's kitchen never lacked for an abundance of good food and a warm welcome. Music was a big part of her life at home and church, as well as volunteering in many other settings. She is now in the company of her Savior whom she loved and served. She is survived by their five children and their spouses: Judy and Rog Punt of Woodbury MN, Kaylene and Verlyn Hemmen of Eagan MN, Lynn and Pam Van Dyke of Ypsilanti, Curt and Katy Van Dyke of Valley City and Keith and Lisa Van Dyke of Maple Grove MN; eleven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. One sister-in-law, Lorraine (Mrs. John) Miedema of Chanhassen also survives. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, 10 siblings and their spouses: Joe, Andrew, Marie Boom, Harold, Tracy DeVries, Harry, Bertha Van Enk, Evelyn Siderius, John, and Mildred Hanson. The funeral service for Joyce will be 10 am Saturday, April 28, at Grace Free Lutheran Church, Valley City. Visitation will be 5-7 pm Friday at the Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City with a prayer service at 7 pm in the chapel. After the time of fellowship, burial will follow at North Marion Reformed Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers you may give memorials to KFNW or Heaven 88.7 radio stations in Fargo.
