Gordon Hansen
May 21, 1923 - August 5, 2010
Gordon Raymond Hansen was born, the son of Alfred and Inga (Anderson) Hansen, on May 21, 1923 on the family homestead near Litchville, ND. He attended Litchville School. His father died when Gordon was a young boy. Gordon farmed with his mother and also did carpentry work in the winter months. On January 25, 1947 he married Grace Haarsager. They made their home on the family farm near Litchville, until moving to Valley City, ND in 1959. He worked for Leo Lumber for two years before starting Hansen Construction. Gordon worked until his failing health caused him to retire. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he was a past council member. He belonged to the Eagles and was formerly a member of the Elks. Spending time with his family was one of the things Gordon loved to do. He enjoyed woodworking and playing pinochle. He also liked driving around the countryside to look at the crops. Gordon died at Mercy Hospital in Valley City on August 5, 2010 surrounded by his loved ones, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. He is survived by his son, Terry (Pamela) Hansen of Jamestown, ND; daughters, Karen (Gary) DeBoer of Monticello, MN, Kathy (Tom) O’Flanagan of Cameron, WI, Connie (Pat) McGough of Valley City, and Cindy (Ryan) Wendel of Valley City; 16 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; sister, Ann Braga of Tacoma, WA; sister-in-law, Margie Hansen of Litchville, ND; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, LeAnne Skretting of Valley City. He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Steven and Daryl; brothers, Clarence, Maynard, Wallace, and Roy; and sisters, Esther Belling, Mildred Ellison, and Alice Anderson.
