George Gagnon
January 9, 1924 - June 9, 2009
George Gayle Gagnon was born on January 9, 1924, the son of Anna L. Peterson and Gayle Gagnon. He grew up on a farm in rural Page, ND and attended country school, and then went to Page public school, where he played football. He worked on farms during the summer and in the spring of 1944; he joined the Navy and trained at Farragut, ID. He served as a machinist on an LSM ship, plus others including the Fargo and Iowa, and traveled to several countries and South Pacific. He served 4 years in the Navy. He married Eleanor Wright in St. Augustine, FL on April 30, 1948. Shortly after he was discharged they moved to ND. He worked for Allied Van Lines for a time and then for Acme Welding out of Fargo, then moved to Bismarck where he worked for Tri State Welding, driving semi carrying liquid oxygen. Eleanor passed away in August 1980. No children were born to this union, but they were involved in many young people’s lives, as they grew up. George, better known to his family and school friends as Bub, moved to California after retiring to help Dick care for their mother, until she passed away in 1987. He continued to live in California until 2 ½ years ago, when he moved to Minneapolis. His health began to fail seriously in March of this year, and he had to enter the nursing home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anna Gagnon and Gayle Gagnon; grandparents; 3 brothers, baby brother, Kent, Wayne (Nancy), and Richard (Camille); a sister, Joyce (Vincent) Webber. Surviving are a sister, Pat (Allen) Nielson of Valley City, ND; uncle, Woody Gagnon of Bismarck; a special niece, Jayme & Jim Bauer of Minneapolis; many other nieces and nephews; and a ton of friends.
