Emma Nelsen Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Emma Eleanor Monson was born on May 28, 1920 at Fingal, North Dakota, the daughter of Mandius and Mathilda (Peterson) Monson. She raised and educated in Fingal where she attended District 32 grade school though the 8th grade. Emma spent her high school years at Valley City High School graduating in 1939. She moved to Riverside, California in 1943 and was united in marriage on November 15, 1944 to Gordon Nelsen. They made there home in Hutchinson, Kansas until Gordon’s discharge from the Navy. They moved to Valley City where she worked for Blume’s Bakery and then for J&L SuperValu in the meat department. She retired in 1980. During their retirement they spent many winters living in Florida. They moved to Holly Springs, North Carolina in 2007 until moving to Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota. Emma enjoyed being with her family and spent time gardening, fishing and bowling. She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Emma is survived by her husband, Gordon, Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota; four daughters, Brenda (James) Bernau, Holly Springs; Patricia (Bill) Selelyo, Twin Falls, Idaho; Karen (Greg) Stephan, Iver Grove Heights; Ellen (Lee) Feldmann, Minot, North Dakota; seven grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. A brother, Thomas Monson, Castle Rock, Washington, also survives. She was preceded in death by her parents and 10 brothers and sisters.
