4/07/2020 - The funeral service for Brigita has been postponed to 10:30 am, Friday, May 15, 2020 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Valley City. Brigita Ella Augusta (Handt) Duffy, 90, Valley City, ND, passed away Tuesday, March 10, in Sheyenne Care Center. Visitation will be Monday, March 16 from 4:00 PM-6:00 PM at Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City. The funeral service will be 10:00 AM Friday, April 10, 2020 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Valley City. Brigita was born May 6, 1929 outside of Rogers, ND to Erick and Freida Handt. She experienced a full life. Her early years were spent in the surrounding farming communities to large city life. Brigita traveled coast to coast and was always up for hunting or fishing trip. Her love of the quieter life brought her back to Valley City where you would find her volunteering with Our Savior’s Lutheran Church to being a teacher’s aide at the local elementary schools. This is where she became known to all as Grandma, a name she embraced. Brigita is loved by many and will be truly missed. Brigita is survived by her children, Paula (Ferris), Robert W. (Phyllis), Richard (Rita), Carol, Rodney (Annette), Rebecca, Roger (Monica) and Melissa (Gerry), 32 grandchildren, 75 great grandchildren, and 33 great-great grandchildren. Brigita is preceded in death by her parents, ex spouse Robert E. Duffy, daughter Melinda, son Ritchie, grandson Robert, granddaughter Cynthia and a brother Herb.
