Anne Lavina (Christensen) Lade, age 93, Valley City, North Dakota, died June 20, 2010, at the Sheyenne Care Center, Valley City, in care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. She was born Oct. 4, 1916, to George and Bertha (Thompson) Christensen in Minneapolis, MN, where she spent her early years. Anne graduated from Edison High School in Minneapolis in 1935 and attended Winona State University, Winona, MN, and taught elementary school at Northfield, Osseo, Eden Prairie, Carlton, and Austin, MN. She met James G. Lade while taking a summer course at Bemidji State University and they were married June 15, 1945, in Minneapolis. Anne and James made their home in Carthage, MO, until James was discharged from the Army in 1946. They lived in Fosston, MN, (1946-49), Grand Forks, ND, (1949-56), and moved to Valley City in 1956. Anne earned a BS Degree at Valley City State University in 1959 and taught special education at the first Open Door School in the City Auditorium (1959-67) and later at Jefferson Elementary School (1967-77). She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Mary Circle, ARC, Zonta Club, NDEA, Sons of Norway, and Retired Teachers Association. Keeping in touch with family, grandchildren, and friends was especially important to her. She also enjoyed such interests as cooking and baking, making Norwegian lefse, letter writing, journal writing, playing Scrabble, needlework, and reading. James and Anne traveled to Hawaii, took some tours in the continental U.S., and went to Norway several times to visit relatives on both sides of the family. They spent summers at Lake Beltrami near Bemidji, MN, from 1951-90. In 2000 both Anne and James entered the Sheyenne Care Center. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband (Mar. 30, 2007), and sister, Dorothy Rudolph. Survivors include her daughter, Judith (Duane) Stahl of Valley City, ND, son Burton Lade of Bemidji, MN, and grandchildren Rosanne (Del) Sharp of Kremmling, CO, Roger (Kate) Stahl of Athens, GA, Eldon (Yulia) Stahl of Jamestown, ND; and a great granddaugter, Antonina Stahl. Memorial Services will be held at a later date.
