Patricia Ann Loven

Patricia “Patty” Ann (Perske) Loven was born on April 18, 1935, in Moorhead, MN. She was youngest daughter of eight siblings to Louis and Lavina Perske. Being her dad’s favorite, he took her to many baseball and softball games, inspiring her love for all sports. She was also very active in their church. Patty graduated from Moorhead High School in 1953 where she was a proud Moorhead Spud, and shortly after, began working at Gate City Savings and Loan, where she met Einar Loven. Patty and Einar were married on October 20, 1956, in Moorhead, MN. Together, they had three children, Keith, Kent, and Kristi. In the fall of 1960, they moved to Valley City for Einar to start his job at Fidelity Federal Savings and Loan, while Patty started her career as a stay-at-home mom. She also worked at JCPenney and Nelson Optometry. Einar passed away on March 26, 1986. Patty was known for being the neighborhood hostess of Chautauqua Boulevard, always entertaining with ladies’ luncheons, holiday parties, and everything in between. Not one detail was missed in her party planning where she used nothing but the finest china. She loved to spend time in the kitchen and even followed a weekly schedule for her baking and cleaning duties. Always one to keep busy, she sat on the election committee for years, taught Sunday School, drank daily coffee with friends, and was active in a card club and Ladies Circles. Patty was popular with her kids’ friends, especially on pool days, as she always had fresh caramel rolls, Special K bars, and taco salad ready. She took great pride in her home, always having a pristine yard and decorating for every holiday, creating the most welcoming space for everyone. Through these neighborhood parties, she met Jim Flynn, who she married on July 19, 1998, in Valley City. The next few years were filled with attending their grandkids’ every possible program, concert, and sporting event. Her frequent attendance earned her the Valley City High School “Hi-Liner Fan of the Year” award. Through the years, she enjoyed traveling all over the United States, always bringing home a souvenir magnet to add to her collection. Above all, family was the most important thing to Patty. She dearly loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. This was apparent in her constant presence, especially in Kristi’s kids’ lives, watching them every Friday and many days during the week and serving her famous “Dippin’ Eggs,” toast, and rolls. Due to health reasons, in July 2019, Patty and Jim started a new chapter at Bridgeview Estates where they reunited with old friends and gained new friends in both staff and residents. Of course, when they moved, she had to bring her crystal chandelier and many decorations to make their apartment feel more like home. Jim passed away in October 2020. She continued their tradition of playing cards and socializing at 3 o’clock coffee hour. Needing more assistance, Patty moved into the Sheyenne Care Center in January 2025 and was there until she passed. Her room continued to be decorated with her holiday decorations, and her candy dish was always full. This proved to be a great way to get people into her room, while Patty’s gift of gab made it hard to leave! Throughout her time at the Care Center, she made many new friends with all the staff and was so appreciative of their care. Patty is survived by her children, Keith, Hendersonville, TN, Kent (Rochelle), Aliso Viejo, CA, and Kristi (Todd) Kohler, Valley City, ND; 5 stepchildren; 9 grandchildren, Bethany Loven, Leah Loven, Tricia (Kenny) Lassegard, Josh (Kendyl) Loven, Andrew (Vee) Loven, Madeline (Andrew) Lee, Derek (Janna) Kohler, Karli (Garrett) Mahigan, and Kara (Andrew) Schaefer; 17 great-grandchildren, Peyton, Paisley, Lainey, and Liv Kohler; Conley and Palmer Mahigan; Avy, Esly, and Scottie Schaefer; Siena Lassegard; Isla, Liam, Maverick, and Declan Loven; Magnus and Amayah Loven; and Hayden Lee; brother, Richard Perske, Peoria, AZ; and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husbands, parents, and 6 siblings. A special thank you to Bridgeview Estates and Sheyenne Care Center staff for their compassionate, endless care during Patty’s final years.
