The funeral service for Dawn Hass, 54, Valley City, ND will be 11:00 AM, Friday, September 5, 2014 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Valley City. Burial will be at Waldheim Cemetery, rural Kathryn, ND. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 at the Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City. There will also be a time for viewing an hour prior to the service at the church. Dawn Ranae Hass passed away September 1, 2014 at the age of 54. She was born in Valley City on May 18, 1960, daughter of Selmer and Ruth (Stavedahl) Huus. Dawn was confirmed and attended Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Valley City. Throughout the years she worked various jobs: cooking at the Bismarck airport, The Elks Club, and the Senior Citizens Center, and occasionally she thought she was being sneaky by putting sauerkraut in homemade pizzas and feeding it to her children. She also worked at the Sheyenne Care Center as a CNA, and at Drug Plastics as a packer inspector, which was her last place of employment. She always stated how much she loved working for the elderly, a trait shared in the family. For a time she was also a Mary Kay consultant and has always enjoyed wearing makeup. In 1988 she briefly attended North Dakota State College of Science in pursuit of a nursing career, but let her daughters complete that dream for her. Dawn had three children with Thomas Hass; Travis, April, and Samantha. She loved to suntan and spend time with her sister, having fun. She had strong beliefs and passion about a lot of things, not to be confused with her stubbornness and independence. She seemed to make friends anywhere, even during one of her recent hospitalizations she grew close to a neighboring patient and they spent their days together in the hospital eating, watching TV, and talking about getting out of the hospital. Even though she despised having her picture taken, once in a while she would pose and smile. Dawn is survived by a long time close friend Mike Heinze; her mother, Ruth Huus; her brothers, Guy Huus (Marie), Jeff Huus (Kris), Todd Huus (Sharee), and Greg Huus (Lisa); her children, Travis Hass (Andrea), April Whisler (Michael), Samantha Hass; her grandchildren, Caleb and Aurora Faucett and Trevin Hass; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. She is preceded in death by her father, Selmer Huus; her sister, Sherry Lorenz; and two unborn babies, Angel and Jonathan.
